Hotel Cipriani landing on Giudecca: palazzo, private mooring and the lagoon crossing toward Venice

OHH! WEDDING · Venice

Where to Celebrate in Venice

Venice changes what close means. Two houses can share a canal and still ask the wedding to cross water twice. The first question is not which palazzo is the most photographed. It is where guests land, where they sleep, and how many times the celebration asks them to leave the boat.

A private landing is not a buyout. An island is not automatically quieter. A palazzo that can host dinner may sleep nobody. The Venice chapter on Destinations already states the geography: water is the street, and a coach is not a Venice plan. This page asks what each house does to that geometry. Houses are still opened through conversation.

On this reading: when the palazzo can be held entire · when a Grand Canal hotel holds the nights · when the Riva is the stay · when Giudecca contains the week · when an island writes the last crossing · when the house has no bedrooms · when the Lido is not the historic centre

When the palazzo can be held entire

Twenty-four keys, or twenty-five

Best considered when the week can close the doors of one house — not a wing, not a terrace reserved for the afternoon.

San Polo · Grand Canal

Aman Venice

Exclusive buyout 24 rooms and suites Ballroom 80 seated / 100 standing

Palazzo Papadopoli, Aman Venice, on the Grand Canal with the hotel launch at the water

Why we would consider it

A mid-1500s palazzo that publishes exclusive buyout. The same celebrations language gates the ballroom, the bar and the full garden behind a complete taking of the house. Twenty-four rooms and suites. On the 2024 conferences-and-events sheet the ballroom holds 100 standing or 80 seated at two long tables; the garden, with buyout, 150 standing or 60 seated.

What changes the planning

This is a 24-key week, not a hotel wing. Eighty at dinner will not sleep in twenty-four rooms. If the inner list stays in the palazzo and the rest of the list sleeps across the canal, that is already two hospitality plans — and another crossing. The current site gives Marco Polo as 50 minutes by boat; a 2023 factsheet gave 35. Both remain. A hotel launch is published; “private landing” as a technical term is not. Civil legality on-site is not publicly verified.

San Marco · San Samuele

Palazzina Grassi

Hotel buyout 25 rooms including 5 suites Private watertaxi dock

Palazzina Grassi on the Grand Canal, with the private dock beside the palazzo

Why we would consider it

A small San Marco house that publishes a hotel buyout of all 25 rooms and suites, plus restaurant, lounge and terrace. The restaurant is given as up to 70 seated, 120 as a cocktail dinatoire, and 200 after dinner — and, on the same official language, 15 to 180 overall. A private watertaxi dock is published.

What changes the planning

Twenty-five keys is a closed house, not a frescoed Aman. Seventy at dinner and 200 after dinner are not the same night. Civil and religious status are not publicly verified; the dock does not invent a ceremony licence. If the list is larger than the bedrooms, San Marco remains outside the door — close, and still another address.

When a Grand Canal hotel holds the nights

The canal as arrival hall

Best considered when guests can sleep on the water they arrived on — and when exclusive use is read as the sentence the hotel actually printed.

San Marco

The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Hotel takeover 82 accommodations Private pier

Palazzo Pisani Gritti, The Gritti Palace, on the Grand Canal with the canal terrace

Why we would consider it

Eighty-two luxury accommodations — 61 rooms and 21 suites — and official language for taking over the hotel. A private pier. Salone Gritti banquet 80, reception 100. Club del Doge Terrace the same pair inverted: reception 100, banquet 80. Alilaguna is published at about 90 minutes to Santa Maria del Giglio, then a two-minute walk.

What changes the planning

A takeover at 82 keys can concentrate nights that Aman cannot sleep. It is still a San Marco hotel: the city remains outside the door. Civil ceremony on-site is not publicly verified. Porterage is published on hostess transfers; so are motor launches with a mobile platform for guests confined to wheelchairs. Water-taxi duration from Marco Polo is not published as a hotel figure on the pages used — the 90 minutes belong to Alilaguna.

San Marco 2159

The St. Regis Venice

124 rooms and 39 suites Garden exclusive use Private pontoon

The St. Regis Venice on the Grand Canal: palazzo façades, terrace and pontoon

Why we would consider it

One hundred and twenty-four guest rooms and 39 suites, a private pontoon, and a four-minute walk to Piazza San Marco as the hotel prints it. Garden Exclusive Use is published at reception 100 and banquet 64. Garden with Sala Canaletto: reception 150, banquet 106.

What changes the planning

Garden exclusive use is a garden, not a published whole-hotel buyout. The pontoon solves an arrival; it does not hold the house. Civil status is not publicly verified. San Marco at four minutes is proximity and public-space pressure in the same sentence. Indoor rooms exist — Canaletto, the garden pair — if the outdoor version of the day disappears.

Cannaregio · Ca’ d’Oro

Ca’ Sagredo Hotel

42 rooms Symbolic on-site Civil off-site

Ca’ Sagredo, the pink palazzo on the Grand Canal

Why we would consider it

Forty-two rooms — 11 suites, 9 junior suites, 22 doubles. The house publishes symbolic ceremonies, blessings and renewals on-site in the Portego, the Amigoni rooms, the patio or the rooftop. Civil or religious rites are sent to surrounding churches or the City Council Hall. The Portego is given as about 150 guests; Doge Hall dinners up to 50.

What changes the planning

On-site and legal are two different days. If the sì is at City Hall or a church, the palazzo is the dinner — and the list still has to move. A full-hotel buyout is not published. A private landing is not published as a term. The 2019 package PDF gives five minutes’ walk from Rialto and ten from St Mark’s; those walks are hotel language, not a bridge count.

When the Riva is the stay and the city is the ceremony

Sleep on the Bacino

Best considered when the hotel can hold the nights — and the vows are allowed to happen in another Venetian room.

Castello · Riva degli Schiavoni

Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel

120 accommodations in 2026 City venues for ceremonies Terrazza banquet 90

Danieli palaces on Riva degli Schiavoni, facing the Bacino

Why we would consider it

The current official identity is Four Seasons, open from 26 August 2026 — not the former Luxury Collection sheet. One hundred and twenty accommodations including 52 suites in 2026; 176 including 79 suites planned for 2027. The wedding page states that ceremonies and symbolic blessings typically take place in local city venues. Terrazza Danieli indoor: banquet 90, reception 100. Outdoor: banquet 50, reception 100.

What changes the planning

The hotel holds the nights. The sì is another address. “Made all your own” is space hire, not a published full-hotel buyout. A private dock is not publicly verified. Clothes, witnesses and the hour between the Riva and Casa Comunale — or a church — are the wedding, not a stroll along the waterfront. Indoor Terrazza numbers exist if the outdoor terrace disappears.

When Giudecca contains the week

Across the Bacino

Best considered when the list can sleep on Giudecca — so San Marco becomes a crossing you choose, not a commute you cannot avoid.

Giudecca

Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel

Can be privatised 79 rooms Private landing dock

Hotel Cipriani on Giudecca: palazzo, waterfront terrace and landing poles

Why we would consider it

The homepage gives 55 rooms, 20 suites and 4 signature suites; the wedding PDF says 79 rooms. The hotel can be privatised. A private marina and landing dock. A complimentary five-minute shuttle to St Mark’s. Thirty minutes by water taxi from Marco Polo; twenty from Santa Lucia. Official headings: religious, civil, blessings. Longhi banquet 220. Casanova Gardens: up to 250 banquet and 350 cocktail on the wedding PDF; the events PDF gives cocktail 300.

What changes the planning

Giudecca can hold the sequence if the people who matter will sleep in 79 keys. Two hundred and fifty in the gardens will not. Belmond lists Venice City Hall among eligible locations; Comune pages do not publish a guest number for that room. Civil on the hotel lawn is not assumed. After dinner, the five-minute shuttle is useful only while it still runs for the list that did not stay. Indoor Longhi is what remains if the gardens disappear.

The last boat

Best considered when the list will sleep on the island — and when the published shuttle is treated as a clock, not a courtesy.

Isola delle Rose · Sacca Sessola

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa

266 rooms and suites, 2023 press Shuttle to 23:00 Symbolic church language

Isola delle Rose, Sacca Sessola, in the lagoon — the JW Marriott island

Why we would consider it

An island resort. Two hundred and sixty-six rooms and suites appear on the 1 January 2023 Marriott press release; live rooms pages do not republish a 2026 total. Venezia room: theatre 380, banquet 220, reception 350. Official symbolic ceremonies in a nineteenth-century church / deconsecrated San Marco Hall. Complimentary shuttle Giardini Reali to the island every 30 minutes, 8.30 am to 11 pm, subject to seasonality and events.

What changes the planning

The island can remove the sestieri if the list sleeps here. It can also add a second transport system: Giardini Reali, then the boat, then the last crossing at 23:00. After that hour the island is the wedding. Whole-island buyout is not published. Civil legality is Comune geography, not a hotel garden. Two hundred and twenty at banquet and 266 keys from 2023 are not automatically the same guest list.

Isola di San Clemente

San Clemente Palace Venice

Independent, 2026 ~10 minutes from San Marco Church of 1131

Isola di San Clemente from the water: island, campanile and the palace-monastery

Why we would consider it

An independent five-star hotel on its own island — not Kempinski on the 2026 site. Complimentary wooden shuttle every 30 minutes; about 10 minutes from San Marco. The wedding page speaks of up to 600 guests across gardens, courtyards, terraces and the Romanesque church of 1131. Meetings language also gives up to 400 indoor, and a range from ten delegates to a thousand. Those sentences are not collapsed.

What changes the planning

A live official key total is not published. Without bedrooms on the record, the island cannot be planned as a sleep figure — only as a crossing and a church. The church is not on the Comune civil list; civil status is not publicly verified. Whole-island buyout is not published. Private transfers to Marco Polo and Santa Lucia can be arranged; durations are not. After the last wooden boat, San Clemente is the night.

When the house has no bedrooms

Everyone wakes somewhere else

Best considered when the legal room or the empty scuola is chosen first — and the hotel architecture is written as a second system, not an afterthought.

San Marco 4089 · Rialto

Palazzo Cavalli

Casa Comunale Zero bedrooms Gondola arrival, Comune language

Palazzo Cavalli on the Grand Canal at Rialto, the municipal wedding house

Why we would consider it

The principal historic-centre seat of the Casa Comunale. The piano nobile is dedicated to marriages and civil unions. Gondola arrival is the Comune’s own sentence. Current pages do not publish a guest number. There are no bedrooms.

What changes the planning

This is the legal sì, not a hotel. Everyone wakes somewhere else — Gritti, Danieli, a room block, an island. Clothes, witnesses and the hour after the act have to leave a municipal house. A hotel garden is not this room. Palazzo Ducale is not this room. If dinner is in another palazzo, the wedding already has two addresses and at least one water movement between them.

Cannaregio

Scuola Grande della Misericordia

Official civil location, 2026 ~2,000 sqm Private floating pier

Scuola nuova della Misericordia, the brick scuola beside the canal in Cannaregio

Why we would consider it

An event house that publishes private events including weddings. About 1,000 square metres per floor; no official banquet headcount. A private floating pier suitable for large Gran Turismo boats, and a professional kitchen of nearly 100 square metres. On 27 April 2026 the Comune lists it as a private exclusive civil location — sede disponibile — at the administrative tariff of €10,000 omnicomprensiva.

What changes the planning

Volume and a legal room, not a hotel. Zero bedrooms. Square metres are not covers. The pier is useful only if guests, suppliers and the return after dinner can actually use it. The list still wakes in hotels. This is a two-address wedding by definition: the scuola, and wherever people slept.

When the Lido is not the historic centre

Another waterfront

Best considered when the week should live on the Lido’s own shore — halls and beach, not a sestiere palazzo — and when the shuttle to San Marco is treated as a crossing.

Lido di Venezia · Lungomare Marconi 41

Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort

198 rooms and suites ~500 indoor / 2000 outdoor Private pier shuttle

Hotel Excelsior on the Lido di Venezia, the Moorish-revival hotel on Lungomare Marconi

Why we would consider it

One hundred and ninety-eight rooms and suites. The home page gives circa 500 people indoors and up to 2,000 outdoors; the Red Carpet Room 500 seats. Complimentary shuttle from the hotel’s private pier toward San Marco. The About page says just 15 minutes; the FAQ says around 30 minutes. Both remain.

What changes the planning

This is the Lido, not San Marco. Five hundred indoors and two thousand outdoors are not a bedroom plan. The shuttle is seasonal and regularly throughout the day — not a 23:00 island clock, and not a vaporetto substitute invented here. Civil on the beach is not publicly verified; the house is not on the 2026 Comune private-civil list. If the week also wants Palazzo Cavalli, that is another waterfront and another movement.

Venice planning intelligence

Water is the street

Guests still enter through Marco Polo, then Santa Lucia or Piazzale Roma. That is the arrival system — airport, then boat or foot — already stated on Destinations. House times are not one “Venice transfer.” Aman publishes 50 minutes by boat from Marco Polo on the current site and 35 on a 2023 factsheet. Cipriani publishes 30 minutes from Marco Polo and 20 from Santa Lucia. Gritti publishes Alilaguna at about 90 minutes to Santa Maria del Giglio. Those sentences belong to those houses.

A private pier, pontoon or dock is published at the Gritti, Cipriani, St. Regis, Palazzina Grassi and the Excelsior. Misericordia publishes a private floating pier. Aman publishes a launch and water taxi. JW Marriott and San Clemente publish shuttles. Water-taxi access is not a guest-transport plan. Staging of several boats, luggage, elderly guests, rain, and the return after dinner remain planning questions unless a house prints them.

Island clocks matter more than island romance. JW Marriott: every 30 minutes, 8.30 am to 11 pm, subject to season and events. San Clemente: every 30 minutes, about 10 minutes from San Marco. Cipriani: five minutes to St Mark’s. Excelsior: 15 minutes and 30 minutes, both official, in season. After the last published crossing, the island or the Lido is the wedding. That is concentration, or a curfew.

Do not count bridges from a map and print the number. Official walk language used here is limited: St. Regis four minutes to Piazza San Marco; Gritti two minutes from S. Maria del Giglio; Sagredo’s 2019 PDF five minutes from Rialto and ten from St Mark’s. Gritti publishes launches with a mobile platform for guests confined to wheelchairs, and porterage on hostess transfers. Step-free access at most houses is not publicly documented. Luggage does not always follow the guest’s last walk.

Civil, religious and symbolic are not interchangeable. The Comune celebrates civil marriage in the Casa Comunale. Palazzo Cavalli is the principal historic-centre seat. Tariffed municipal rooms and three private exclusive locations (Misericordia, San Giovanni Evangelista, La Pagoda–Des Bains) are 2026 official geography. Palazzo Ducale is not a civil room. Hotel gardens and island churches are not automatically Casa Comunale. Danieli and Sagredo send typical or legal rites off-site. Cipriani publishes civil, religious and blessings and lists City Hall as a Belmond location.

If the outdoor or water-led version of the day disappears, what remains is only what the house has printed: Aman piano nobile and ballroom; Gritti Salone; St. Regis Canaletto; Cipriani Longhi; JW’s conference rooms; San Clemente’s meeting rooms; Excelsior’s Red Carpet Room; Danieli’s indoor Terrazza; Palazzina’s restaurant. Acqua alta guest procedures were not published as operating rules on the hotel pages used. They are not invented here. How people then move is the guest-logistics problem. Whether the house can be held at all is the buyout problem.

How Venice sorts itself

What these houses already make clear

Four houses publish a whole-hotel sentence: Aman, Palazzina Grassi, the Gritti Palace, and Cipriani. Twenty-four keys and twenty-five keys close a palazzo. Eighty-two and seventy-nine hold a hotel. Those are not the same product. St. Regis publishes Garden Exclusive Use — a garden, not the house. Danieli publishes rooms that can be made your own. JW Marriott and San Clemente publish shuttle clocks. Exclusive, on this water, can mean a terrace, a last boat, or the entire palazzo. Confirm which.

Cavalli and Misericordia have no bedrooms. The legal sì and the empty scuola are not hotels. If the list wakes in San Marco and marries at Rialto, that is already two addresses — luggage, clothes, and the hour between them. Danieli says ceremonies typically happen in the city. Sagredo sends civil and religious off-site. A chapel, a church on an island, and Casa Comunale are three different machines.

Giudecca can contain the week if Cipriani’s keys hold the people who matter. Isola delle Rose and San Clemente can remove the sestieri — until 23:00 at JW, or until the next wooden shuttle at San Clemente. After the last published crossing, the island is the wedding. That is not automatically privacy. The Lido is another waterfront: halls and a beach, and a shuttle that is both 15 and 30 minutes on official pages. Central is not easy. An island is not simpler. A palazzo is not a bedroom plan.

How the house uses this

Conversation, not a directory

This is a considered editorial selection. Suitability depends on who is coming, where they sleep, how they arrive, how many movements the wedding requires, how many days they stay, and what the house can honestly hold. Availability, capacities and operating conditions are confirmed for the specific celebration.

Private concierge

The venue is only the beginning

Where everyone sleeps, how they cross the water, whether the city is entered or contained, and what happens after the last boat, are part of the same conversation as the house itself.
